I’ve just completed the last of the four guitars I’ve been working on this last winter. They’re all Hawaiian acoustic steel guitars, or Weissenborns as they are commonly known. They’re all pretty close to the same dimensions, varying in body depth from 3 1/2″ to 3 3/4″, the specs for each one are listed on the ‘available’ page.

#26, Honduran Mahogany back, sides and top. Laminated sides. Koa bridge, fretboard, rosette, binding and headstock veneer. 25″ scale, with abalone fret markers @ 3,5,7,9,12,15,17 &19th frets. Spruce bracing, Gotah tuners with ebony buttons, and a K&K Pure Mini pickup.

#27 – Honduran Mahogany back and sides, the sides are laminated under the mahogany, see previous post for why & what. A one piece, old growth Red Cedar top, salvaged from a highway where the tree fell a couple years ago from a Winter storm in the Cascade mountains. The bridge, fretboard, rosette and headstock veneer are Koa, the binding is maple. Gotah tuners, bone nut & saddle. 25″ scale.

Both woods that are endemic to the southern Oregon coast, both beautiful woods and trees, and excellent tonewoods. Spruce bracing, bone nut & saddle, and a K&K pure Mini under bridge pickup.
